Children’s National Medical Center is a 303-bed tertiary and quaternary children’s hospital that performs nearly 15,000 surgeries and manages more than 370,000 outpatient visits in 45 specialties annually. Recognized as one of the nation’s leading clinical and research institutions and consistently ranked among the best pediatric hospitals in America, the organization was seeking guidance on performance improvement opportunities with its physician enterprise.
ECG collaborated with Children’s National to identify performance improvement opportunities for over 500 physicians across multiple pediatric subspecialties. The engagement included an assessment of operational and structural elements of the physician enterprise. Payer contract rate structures and payment methodologies, revenue cycle performance, clinic operations, provider-based billing, organization and management structure, and physician deployment, productivity, and compensation were evaluated for improvement opportunities.
During the first year, Children’s National realized $7 million dollars in additional revenue from implementing ECG’s recommendations, and the new physician leadership structure is in place. ECG is providing ongoing support with negotiation of payer contracts.
